Pitchers and catchers report

They actually reported two weeks ago.....but I just love the sound of that.

Sunday was supposed to the big TV debut of the Twins this Spring Training. Except FSN apparantly had issues getting the feed from the local broadcast channel and instead we had womens basketball.

What a bummer. Tristan and I had even sent mommy to the mall so we could enjoy the game together.

The Twins sorta stink thus far this spring. They given up a ton of runs and have lost two blow-outs. They cant pitch (this means you Carlos Silva and Scott Baker) and no one is really hitting either. They managed to beat the D-Rays today to finally win a game but they are 1-4-1 early in the spring.

I'm kinda of concerned that my son might learn too much of his vocabulary from Bert Blyleven if I manage to watch as many Twins games this year as last year. I'm wondering what a speech therapist will cost to teach Tris to not pronounce Chicago "Shee-ca-go"

Why?

The world probably doesnt need another blog about baseball...but I'm starting one anyway.

The thing is....baseball is such a perfect metaphor for so many things in life. It just fits so well.

I want this to be different though. Not just a blog about baseball but a journal of the relationship between my son and I with the baseball season as a backdrop.

One of my first childhood memories is seeing Carlton Fisk's game 6 home run over and over as he willed the ball fair. I remember the whole countries excitement leading up to game 7. It seems that everyone was in front of the TV to see Cincinati ultimately win that World Series

Some of my fondest memories are playing baseball in the schoolyard and recruiting from blocks and blocks around to find enough kids to field teams.

I remember learning to play at the feet of my dad. Playing catch, him hitting grounders and pop flys to me and pitching endless balls to me well I swung away.

I hope to pass on that love of the game to my son. I hope someday to share this journal with him.

Until then...go Twins!
